How to Pay Someone on Venmo
You can pay someone on Venmo from either their phone or computer. To pay from your phone, you must log in, press the “Pay or Request” button, and enter the amount to be sent. To pay from a computer, you must press the “Pay” button at the top of the screen and enter the amount. Please note that your bank account must be linked to your Venmo account in order to make payments, and the recipient must also have a Venmo account.
Paying Someone with Venmo (Mobile)
Open the Venmo app. Venmo is a free app for iOS and Android platforms.
Sign in if you are not logged in. Use the email address and password you used when you created your Venmo account.
Tap the “Pay or Request” icon in the upper right corner of the screen. It looks like a box containing a pencil drawing and a dollar sign.
Enter the recipient’s name, Venmo username, phone number, or email. If you’ve paid this person before, their name will appear in your “Top people” list automatically.
- The recipient of the money must also use Venmo.
Enter the amount to be sent to the recipient. You should also add a description in the “What’s it for?” in the payment area.
Press “Pay” to send money. You can’t add funds to Venmo; however, if your bank account is linked to a Venmo account, paying through Venmo will draw funds from your bank account and send them directly to the recipient. [1]
Wait for the recipient to receive your funds. You have successfully sent money with Venmo!
Paying Someone with Venmo (Computer)
Open a browser. If you can’t use the Venmo mobile app and need to pay someone, you can use the Venmo website to do it.
Go to the front page of the Venmo site . Click the available link.
Sign in to Venmo if you aren’t already logged in. Use the email address and password you used when you created your Venmo account.
Click your name on the top right side of the screen. You will be redirected to your personal Venmo page.
Click the “Pay or charge someone” field at the top of the screen. The menu will expand to display the payment amount and beneficiary information.
Click “Pay” to set this transaction as payment. You can also bill people with this menu.
Enter the recipient’s name, Venmo username, phone number, or email in the “To” field. You can also click on the name of one of the most recent recipients to pay them immediately.

Enter the amount you wish to pay to the recipient. Enter the amount in the column below the contact information column.

Create a Venmo Account
Download the Venmo app. This app is free on Google Play store for Android platform and on Apple store for iOS platform.

Press “Sign Up” at the bottom of the screen.
Verify your phone number if prompted. Venmo will ask you to enter a multi-digit code which will be sent as an SMS to your phone number. [5]
Add your credit or debit card information. This information includes the name printed on the card, card number, card expiration date, and the three-digit code on the back of the card.
Connect your bank account with Venmo. To pay someone with Venmo, you need to allow access to your bank account. Follow the displayed steps to do this; You must provide the bank name and bank account number.

View your contacts and friends on Venmo. In the next screen, Venmo will show people in your contacts who are also using Venmo; You can add them as Venmo contacts if you like.

Double check your bank account balance before sending money through Venmo.
The Venmo service acts like Chase’s QuickPay function (or a regular check), in that your funds don’t leave your account until the recipient “signs” it (in this case, accepts it).
